1. The code runs name.upper() alone, with name = "fox". What happens to name?

   name.upper() returns a new string and leaves name exactly as it was, so without an assignment the result evaporates. It is the same immutability every string method shares.
2. How does the lesson join a list of words into one sentence?

   join belongs to the separator string and takes the iterable: " ".join(words). The spelling feels backwards at first, but it reads honestly, the glue knows what it is gluing.
3. What does text[:9] give you?

   A slice with the left bound missing starts at the beginning, so [:9] is the first nine characters. Its mirror [-9:] reads from the end, and between the two shapes either end is reachable without counting.
4. Why did the lesson's example assign the result of strip()?

   strip returns a cleaned copy and changes nothing behind it, so the cleaned value has to be assigned, and in the example that happened twice: once per line, once per item after the split.
5. Why did the lesson reach for f-strings whenever values joined the text?

   An f-string puts the value where it belongs, inside the text, with the braces marking the seams. No percent placeholders, no format method chained on the end, and the arithmetic can happen right inside the braces.
