Test your knowledge: HTML Links

Review

1. Why should link text make sense on its own, without the sentence around it?

Link lists are a primary navigation tool for screen reader users, and they contain only the link text. The same text also appears in search results and shared previews, where the surrounding sentence is gone.
2. Which href form survives moving the linking page to a different folder depth within the same site?

Root-relative paths resolve against the site root, so they keep working as the linking page moves deeper or shallower. Document-relative paths break, absolute URLs chain you to the domain, and fragments stay inside the current page.
3. A link href="#storage" stops jumping when clicked. What is the most likely cause?

Fragment links jump to the element whose id matches the text after #. If that id no longer exists, browsers silently do nothing, with no error message, which is why broken fragments ship so easily.
4. What does rel="noopener" protect against on a target="_blank" link?

Historically an opened page could use window.opener to control the page that opened it, a trick known as tabnabbing. Modern browsers isolate by default, but writing noopener still protects older embedded browsers and costs nothing.
5. Which of these may legally sit inside an <a> element?

An anchor standing on its own may wrap whole blocks, which is what makes linked cards legal. It may never contain another interactive element such as a button, select, or another anchor, because nested interactive elements produce unpredictable focus and click behavior.
